On April 1, 2025, Helical Fusion Co-Founder & CEO Takaya Taguchi participated in a high-level policy meeting of the Fusion Energy Project Team within Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)—the country’s ruling and most influential political party.

As one of three invited startups, Taguchi presented Helical Fusion’s progress in developing steady-state helical fusion reactors, contributing to the session theme “Leading the World in Demonstrating Fusion Power: Development Across Diverse Reactor Types.”

Through this session, he helped emphasize the importance of advancing multiple reactor concepts as Japan works toward commercial fusion power.

This dialogue comes at a time when momentum is accelerating in Japan’s political landscape around fusion energy. Just weeks earlier, on March 17, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba urged a revision of the national fusion strategy during a session of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CSTI).

Helical Fusion is committed to building a steady-state fusion power plant to serve as a reliable, base-load energy source supporting Japan’s national energy security. We will continue actively contributing to policy and institutional development toward real-world fusion implementation.
