Helical Fusion and Fujikura Strengthen Partnership to Accelerate HTS Magnet Supply for Fusion

Helical Fusion is pleased to announce a significant step toward realizing the world’s first steady-state fusion power plant. On April 18th, we reached an agreement with Fujikura Ltd., a global leader in rare earth high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wire development, to procure additional quantities of this essential material.

HTS wire is the foundation of HTS magnets—one of the most critical components in fusion reactor systems. With global competition intensifying in fusion technology, this partnership enables Helical Fusion to further advance its development and demonstration of next-generation HTS magnet systems, while strengthening the end-to-end supply chain from material to device.

Our Fusion Pilot Plant (FPP), scheduled for operation in 2034, will require an extraordinary volume of HTS wire—approximately equal to the circumference of the Earth. To meet this demand, we are working closely with Fujikura to align supply capacity with long-term development goals.

To mark this milestone, we hosted a press event featuring remarks from Takaya Taguchi (Co-Founder & CEO) and Yosuke Kubo (COO) of Helical Fusion, as well as Masanori Daibo, General Manager of the Superconductor Business Development Division at Fujikura. Each speaker presented their vision for fusion and superconducting innovation and responded to a wide range of media questions.

The event also featured demonstrations of Helical Fusion’s proprietary HTS cable and a detailed model of the Fusion Pilot Plant, drawing strong interest from media and stakeholders alike. With a fully packed venue, the event highlighted the rising momentum behind building a Japan-led supply chain for the global fusion industry.
